Chairperson’s message

Over the last six months the economic environment seems to be stabilizing even though at a low level of activity. The slide seems to have either slowed or stopped and there are some signs of recovery. As per the latest data Chinese economy has grown at 7.9% in 2nd quarter and the Indian economy has reversed its downward trend. Certain sectors in the European and the US economy have also shown sign of recovery. However there are still some disturbing aspects.

Primary driver has been the massive investments made by various Governments around the world using public money to make recovery possible. This has been supplemented by the business organizations relentless cost cutting, rationalization of products in consonance with the customer needs, improvement in work processes and growing focus on environment protection and conservation of resources. Organizations are becoming leaner and more customer focused. Many quality improvement tools have been used. At the same time there are other organizations that reduced investment on training and building of employee capability. It has been tough times for most of the member organizations and their constituents.

It seems most likely the recovery would be led by the Asian economies and that seems to be a good indication for the future trends. However there is a long way to go to fulfill our obligation to improve the quality of life of all citizens in Asia. This can only be done through cooperative endeavor of all members.

At the 14th ANQ Board Meeting at Taipei in end March 2009 through a quick consensus various committees were restructured and participation invited from non Board Member organizations too. These committees will help in the achievement of the Goals of ANQ.

Composition and the purpose of restructured committees are given in the newsletter Under hyperlink ANQ Committee Respective chair of the committees have been requested to encourage participation, speed up the work and share the progress through such news letters.

Looking forward to the continuing support from all members.
